Harrisburg, June 15, 2018 – Sen. John Sabatina (D-Philadelphia) is alerting motorists to be mindful of lane closures in Philadelphia due to construction on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard). The closures are scheduled June 18 through June 29 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and will be in effect at the Grant Avenue and Red Lion Road intersections.
“Due to road improvement projects, I encourage motorists in the area to be alert and aware of scheduled lane closures,” Sabatina said. Sabatina serves as the Democratic chair of the Senate Transportation Committee and is a member of the state Transportation Commission.
The road work is part of Philadelphia’s Boulevard Direct Project to construct new bus shelters, plazas, and sidewalks along U.S. 1. The construction coincides with PennDOT’s project to improve, repair, and resurface 12 miles of U.S. 1.
The senator said that while transportation projects work to improve infrastructure in the area, lane closures can cause increased travel times and backed up traffic while construction is taking place. He suggests that motorists check up-to-date traffic conditions by using 511PA, a free mobile site and app that provides traffic information 24 hours a day.
“It is extremely important for drivers to prepare for these traffic conditions to keep themselves, other motorists, and roadworkers safe,” Sabatina said. “Utilizing 511PA is a fast and easy way to do stay up to date with conditions.”
