PHILADELPHIA, October 30, 2017 — State Sen. John Sabatina today announced that residents in need of home heating assistance can apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) starting Nov. 1.
The federally funded LIHEAP offers assistance in the form of a cash grant, sent directly to the utility company. Crisis grants may be available if individuals have an emergency situation and are in jeopardy of losing their heat.
“The LIHEAP program has provided valuable relief to many families struggling to pay their heating bills, and my staff and I are ready to assist constituents with the application process,” said Sabatina (D-Philadelphia). “Winter weather will be here soon and that’s why I encourage anyone who is having trouble with their utility bills to take advantage of this reliable and valuable program.”
Grants are based on household income — $18,090 for an individual homeowner or renter, or $36,900 for a family of four. In addition to proof of income and household size, applicants must provide a recent heating bill.
